Dental biosecurity protocols

At the Asiri Dental Care Center we are a biosecure dental office located in Quito and we follow a rigorous Infection Prevention Plan that contains all the measures that we follow at the foot of the letter and in a daily and systematic way.

This plan or protocol is an extensive document where all our practices regarding infection prevention are reflected.

It goes from the most basic topic that are vaccines to the most complex as precautions against airborne infectious agents such as the SARS-CoV-2 that causes COVID -19

This plan is based on the recommendations of the CDC and the OSHA of the USA and the MSP from Ecuador among others.

Within this plan, you will be able to find the precautions that we take and that are divided into two main categories:

Standard Dental Biosecurity Precautions

As a general rule, the dentist must consider that each and every one of his patients may be carriers of a contagious disease

When considering this rule, then there is a set of measures that should always be taken regardless of whether the patient is healthy or has any disease.

These standard measurements are:

  • Hand hygiene
  • Personal Protective Equipment (gown, gloves, hat, mono glasses, masks)
  • Safe handling of sharps
  • Cleaning, disinfection and sterilization of equipment
  • Cleaning and disinfection of environmental surfaces
  • Management of infectious waste
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Surgical Gown

In addition to these standard measures there are other special categories that are used according to specific situations of possibility of contagion and are called:

Transmission Base Precautions

These precautions should be used to prevent contagion of diseases such as Covid-19 are divided into:

  • Precautions for contact transmission
  • Precautions for airborne transmission

It is in these types of precautions where the dentist protects himself from highly contagious agents such as COVID-19, SARS, and Influenza.
